Richard Strauss

From 1894, the 30-year-old Richard Strauss conducted the Munich Court Orchestra for two years, first as Royal Kapellmeister and then as Court Kapellmeister. Alongside Wagner, Mozart’s operas were a particular focus of his work in Munich. His symphonic poems Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks, Also sprach Zarathustra and Don Quixote were also composed during this time, although they were premiered in Cologne and Frankfurt rather than Munich.
